A number of properties in Ruimsig may be without power for the duration of the day following a fire which caused extensive damage to the mini substation on Van Dalen Street.
City Power notified that the fire was a result of a fault to the mini sub.
“The fire which resulted from a fault at the Van Dalen Street mini sub not only damaged the unit but also connecting cables,” a notice by Ward 97 Councillor Leah Knott read.
“Materials need to be sourced and collected to replace both the minisub and cabling. This requires extensive work and they are aiming to complete by latest this evening,” she highlighted the process.
She also mentioned that restoration is currently at 80 per cent but some areas may remain off until full restoration.
