Uncle Monde keeps learners safe on the road

Uncle Monde, as he is popularly known to the children and staff of Charterhouse, also regularly checks that the school's buses and the hired buses are in good driving order, safe and clean to transport children.

Charterhouse School in Radiokop has congratulated their school driver, Monde Zweni, who completed a gruelling two-day defensive driving course during the holidays.

The course was held in Isando on the East Rand during the September school holidays.

A very talkative Monde said, “Defensive driving taught me a lot of things that I did not know. Sometimes we are not aware of the dangers that exist in our everyday driving. As a driver that transports precious cargo like the kids, I can now say with no doubt that the children are safe in my hands.”

Before attending this particular course, Monde had already gone through another course in defensive driving that took place in Pretoria.

Uncle Monde, as he is popularly known to the children and staff of Charterhouse, also regularly checks that the school’s buses and the hired buses are in good driving order, safe and clean to transport children.

Principal Desmond Zeelie said, “I think Monde’s achievement complements his commitment to the school. He is an asset to the school system and he plays a very big role.”

Earlier in the year, while Monde was transporting some school children, he encountered a situation where traffic was at a complete standstill. Instead of panicking about being late, he parked the school bus and got out to direct traffic to ensure easy flow and a safe journey for his passengers.

“Thank you, Monde, for always keeping our #happyCHAPS safe when you take them out on the road,” the Principal concluded.
