Today in history: Orlando Pirates goalkeeper dies

Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper and captain, Senzo Meyiwa, was shot dead by two armed men on 26 October 2014. The gunmen entered the house in Vosloorus Township, east of Johannesburg, where Meyiwa was at the time of the tragedy.

Meyiwa was born on 24 September 1987 in Umlazi, Durban and was one of the best players of Orlando Pirates.

He was also part of the Orlando Pirates squad when they won a Double Treble in both 2010 and 2011.

In the 2011/ 12 season the club won two MTN8 titles, two Absa Premiership titles, the Telkom Knockout and Nedbank Cup.

His last appearance on television screens was on 25 October 2014 playing against Ajax Cape Town in a Telkom Knockout quarter-final, which Orlando Pirates won 4–1.

The 27-year-old Pirates goalkeeper left behind his wife and two children.
