WATCH: Make a difference with your time and a big smile

Pathways Roodepoort Centre for Disabled Children has collaborated with IIE MSA, a well-known college in the Roodepoort area, under the theme ‘Pathway to greatness’ in order to drive acceptance through volunteering.
The students responsible for this campaign are doing their final year in Public Relations, and have identified that since the centre is developing, the need for volunteers is growing too.

Student Amily Chikafa said, “The benefits of volunteering are endless. Giving back helps to build a stronger community, addresses your personal goals and makes a difference in driving the mission forward.”
Pathways Roodepoort is a stimulation centre for children and young adults with severe mental and physical disabilities.
It is also a registered non-profit organisation that cares for children with special needs, and was established in 2005 by founder and principal manager, Sunette Pretorius.
Sunette said, “Volunteers are the local heroes that help us provide this vital service in the community. If you can offer a listening ear, practical assistance, non-judgmental support and you can spare a few hours a week, then we need you.”

Members of the community that are willing to volunteer and make a difference are advised to join and follow up on the upcoming events on 15 October at IIE MSA as a presentation by a Pathways representative will take place.
The event will tackle the importance of volunteering and the need for more volunteers at Pathways.
The second event that will take place is a volunteering sign-up and meeting with the children on 18 October. This will take place at Pathways Roodepoort.
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer should contact the disability and volunteering team via Sunette@pathwaysroodeport.org.za, or call Sunette on 082 903 0087.
