Action taken against rubbish-dumping employees

"This was an isolated incident where the individual took it upon himself to dump his load illegally. We have no idea what prompted him to do this however it certainly goes against company policy and procedure.”

Smart Waste has responded to the incident that happened on Sunday, 29 September when some employees of the company were caught on camera dumping waste near the river behind Featherbrook Estate.

Smart Waste Director, Clint Ralph said, “In response to the incident, I need to state that in no uncertain terms does the Management or Company Policy condone illegal or unethical waste disposal in any form whatsoever. We pride ourselves in our unwavering approach to ethical waste management. Unfortunately, we are dealing with people. This was an isolated incident where the individual took it upon himself to dump his load illegally. We have no idea what prompted him to do this however it certainly goes against company policy and procedure.”

• The offending staff member was identified and suspended pending a disciplinary hearing.

• The hearing will take place this week once due notice has been given to the offending staff member.
