WATCH: Welcoming Spring with drum beats

Small, medium and large djembe drums were the order for the evening on Friday, 20, September, when the EARTH Centre hosted the Drumming for Horses event.
From the very young to the old from all walks of life came out in numbers to create sounds and rhythms around a bonfire, which provided warmth and light.

The Harmonics, a company founded by Paul Boyter that coordinates drumming events, taught the enthusiastic attendees how to play different sounds, before trying out their own.
However, before that Natalie Stobäus, an equine instructor, entered the drum circle on horseback to thank the attendees for supporting the event and explaining what the centre is about.
Nicole Ras, the centre’s marketing coordinator said, “We do the event twice a year (in March and September) and we’ve been doing it for almost three years now. This time around we did the event to welcome the new season, which brings new life. We also used it to celebrate the upcoming Spring and Summer seasons, and it served as a fundraiser for us.”
She went on to explain how this particular event was unique, compared to those held in the past. “This time around we reached out a little further to an organisation called The Bell House and got people who were unable to attend the event to sponsor tickets to enable The Bell House residents to come out and have fun,” she explained.
