King’s School learners spoil ‘ouma’s’ and ‘oupa’s’

The learners had to cook the food without a kitchen, no precooked meals were allowed and they had to follow a tight budget.

The King’s School West Rand’s Grade 10 learners hosted a ‘Lente Ete’ on Friday, 6 September as an Afrikaans project for which each group had to come up with a theme and raise the necessary finance.

The learners spoiled 40 residents of the Roodepoort Sentrum vir Bejaardes with a three-course meal that was served in a manner that was suitable for kings and queens.

One of the learners, Cameron Moore, said, “I think we have prepared very well and I am so excited having to work with my friends today.”

The ‘ouma’s’ and ‘oupa’s’ received specific invitations in Afrikaans and each table had its own unique theme.

The learners had to cook the food without a kitchen, no precooked meals were allowed and they had to follow a tight budget.

Points were awarded based on the invitation cards, design, table décor and also the manner in which guests were served.

A third learner, Jonathan Harvey, said, “I am excited but a bit nervous about speaking in Afrikaans. We prepared for six weeks and today we must just impress everybody.”
