The healthy habit of parkrunning
Parkrunning takes place at parks, on open fields and private farms, in stadiums and even on campus grounds.
Every Saturday morning, parkrunners come to Ruimsig Stadium for a morning run or walk, and just enjoy the open fields and fresh air.
The parkrun is a free timed 5km trail that takes place every Saturday morning at 8am, right across the world, and there are no less than 214 in South Africa.

Event Director, Adele Enslin, said, “Parkrun is for all abilities, from the fast runner chasing a personal best time to the casual walker enjoying the nature and fresh air, anybody is welcome.”
One of the parkrunners, Cobus Viljoen, ran his 100th parkrun on Saturday, 31 August. He said, “I am not planning to stop any time soon, this is my way of keeping fit and healthy.”
Most events allow dogs and are pram-friendly but it’s always advisable to have a look at the events course page before you visit them, and some might have earlier starts in the summer.
Interested runners are encouraged to register on the parkrun website and bring their printed barcodes with them when visiting any of the parkruns.
