PLG Allens View Academy announces shutdown to parents

The letter, ended with the COO’s name, Sheldon Nielson, vaguely explains the reasons for the school closing down.

It has come to the Northsider’s attention that the embattled PLG Allens View Academy will be shutting down its operation shortly.

The Northsider learnt about the imminent shutdown when a parent sent us a copy of a letter that was allegedly sent to the parents by PLG management, to address the closure of the private school in Allen’s Nek.

The letter, issued in the name of the COO, Sheldon Nielson, vaguely explained the reasons why the school is to stop operating.

“Due to the recent events occurring in the suburban area surrounding PLG Allens View Academy, PLG Schools resolved that it would be in the best interests of all parties concerned to close this school going forward,” the statement read.

The Northsider approached PLG management to obtain clarity on the recent events the statement was referring to. While the publication awaited comment, we were unable to establish any hostility in suburb surrounding the school. The Northsider could only make sense of one reason for the school to cease operating, i.e. the fact that the institution is not registered with the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE).

The revelation that the school was operating illegally was made by the GDE after it confirmed that the school had been served with a letter on 11 January, instructing it to stop operating.

In the most recent media enquiry, the Northsider reiterated its previously posed question regarding the school’s registration to management, but no answer has been forthcoming.

The letter further read, “In order to minimize impact on our learner’s schooling for the remainder of the 2019 academic year, PLG Schools hereby present you with two alternative options for your consideration”.

According to the letter, the two alternatives schools are the Arrows of Destiny Christian Academy, known as Ace College, and Allens View Academy’s sister school, PLG Mellow Oaks Academy, a school also marred by disputes over property ownership (this matter is still being investigated).

It is unclear how this arrangement will work out at this stage. The Northsider has asked the following questions of itself: “Will any arrangement be made for the children to wear their existing school uniforms for the rest of year at the new schools?”; “What will happen to the school fees paid in advance – will they be refunded?”, and “What will happen to all the staff members after the school becomes history?”.
