Suspected residential criminals nabbed

“Shots were exchanged and the suspects started to flee the scene, heading towards the back wall leading into the greenbelt or mountain area. The officer gave chase and managed to arrest one of the suspects,” Holtzhausen explained.

One of four suspects believed to be behind both dog poisonings and residential crimes such as house-breakings, was caught in the early hours of Thursday morning, 1 August, in the Little Falls area.

According to Rudi Holtzhausen, BCI Security’s operations manager, the suspect was arrested after they dispatched their fleet to a resident who had made an urgent call.

“Upon arrival, the BCI reaction officer scaled a wall and was met by four suspects,” he said.

“Shots were exchanged and the suspects started to flee the scene, heading towards the back wall leading into the green belt or mountain area. The officer gave chase and managed to arrest one of the suspects,” Holtzhausen explained.

He added that the BCI TRT and reaction unit searched for the other three suspects but could not locate them. “Honeydew police attended to the scene and took the suspect into custody,” he said.

Prior to this arrest, Holtzhausen mentioned the arrest of another suspect also believed to be terrorising the community, in particular Montrose Avenue.

“Montrose [Avenue] has been the target of dog poisonings, as well as attempted and successful break-ins in the last two weeks. BCI Security assumed the responsibility for catching these criminals. An operation was run and led to the arrest of a suspect carrying house-breaking implements in the mountainous area behind the houses on Montrose Avenue,” he explained.

“This means two criminals have been caught and we are not done yet. And we won’t rest until these attacks in our community stop,” he vowed.
