There was confusion about whether he would appear in the Roodepoort or Randburg Magistrates’ Court, since the shooting took place in Ruimsig (Roodepoort) but he was eventually caught in the Douglasdale area (Randburg) after attempting to flee.

Onlookers indicated that the taxi driver was shot at following a road rage incident. However, it seems as if the suspect was on the warpath on the day, as numerous reports suggest that he had an altercation with his family prior to the brazen shooting.

After firing multiple rounds in the direction of the taxi, leaving the taxi driver in a critical condition from several gunshot wounds to the upper body, the suspect attempted to flee, with the police in hot pursuit. He was eventually captured in Douglasdale, and appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court, where he was allegedly remanded in custody, and subsequently transported to the Johannesburg Prison, also known as Sun City Prison, where he will allegedly remain until Monday, 6 August, when he will make a bail application.
