Local businesses support Mandela Day clean-up
Councillor Sbusiso Mthembu of Ward 96 in Region A and some members of his office were also present at the event to assist the community.
On Mandela Day 18 July the residents of the Thabo Mbeki informal settlement were treated to a clean-up organised by the Bread of Life Christian Foundation (BLCF). They worked in partnership with ISUZU-Tommy Martin Eagle Canyon, Food Lover’s Market, the Ward 96 councillor and Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr Legal.
ISUZU-Tommy Martin Eagle Canyon opted to buy instead of hiring the skip bin for the community, whilst Food Lover’s Market Westgate and Cradlestone committed to providing refreshments for all during the course of the event.
Employees from the top law firm based in Sandton also got their hands dirty and joined forces with the community for the clean-up.
Lungile Gosa from Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr Legal said, “It was a very necessary clean-up initiative and it was good to start something for the community that teaches them about a clean environment and maintaining it.”
Isuzu Dealership Principal, Earle Austin said, “When the skip bin is available, it is important for the City of Johannesburg to collect the refuse regularly, otherwise it will defeat the object.”
Councillor Sbusiso Mthembu of Ward 96 in Region A and some members of his office were also present at the event to assist the community.
He made a promise that his office would look after the sponsored equipment and ensure that it was put to good use.
Siboniso Sithole, founder of BLCF said, “The clean-up is good for the community and it was a success. There is no power in Thabo Mbeki village but only illegal connections, which is why we had a first aid kit available on the day as a precaution.”
