Glenn takes gold and silver in USA

Glenn was in second place going into the final 10km run, but about 3km from the finish he caught the leader, and made a decisive move that saw him hold the lead all the way to the end.

Glenn Macnamara, a fitness, nutrition and peak performance expert from Allen’s Nek, recently returned from a successful venture to the USA, where he competed in two International Duathlons in the state of Ohio.

A duathlon is a run/ cycle/ run event that demands a lot of physical speed and endurance for one to be competitive.

Glenn competed in a small town near Cleveland for his first race and was happy to finish second.

Glenn said, “It was a fast course and in retrospect I probably was too conservative on that first run. I was fourth after the first 5km run. I felt I cycled really well that day and was up to second position after the bike leg. I ran strongly on the last run but was unable to catch the leader. That said, I was very pleased to finish in second place overall.”

The following weekend, Glenn competed on a demanding and hilly course, which he felt was tailor-made for him, as he loves the hilly races.

Glenn describes the race as very close for most of the way. He said, “My body felt so strong and responsive on the day. I felt I could do anything as I raced very tactically and could sense that I had a chance of winning. I led a few times, but was also happy to let an American competitor take the lead too.”

Glenn was in second place going into the final 10km run, but about 3km from the finish he caught the leader, and made a decisive move that saw him hold the lead all the way to the end.

“This was a really meaningful win for me as I spent a year out of racing due to injuries last year,” said Glenn in closing
