Police and public form new partnership
Kekana further encouraged the community to work together by participating in the CPF in order to form positive relationships with each other, with the assistance of the Muldersdrift Police Station.
The District Commissioner of the West Rand, Major General Fred Kekana, and his management engaged the community of Muldersdrift in a bid to strengthen community mobilisation and participation on Wednesday, 10 July.
As the area boasts a number of lodges, plots and informal settlements in its three sectors, it has been marred by criminal elements such as business and house robberies and housebreak-ins. Kekana, according to the Muldersdrift Police spokesperson, Constable Slindile Ntuli, saw fit to visit Muldersdrift and appeal for assistance from the community in reporting crime taking place in the area and working with the police to fight crime.

All the relevant stakeholders were in attendance, including the councillors for the area, Molefi Selibo and Osborn Ramadi; the Muldersdrift Community Policing Forum representatives, the Youth Desk chairperson, Rethabile Selibo; a representative of the Department of Tourism, Annelie Barkema, and members of the broader community of Muldersdrift.
According to Ntuli, the programme outlined the status and performance of policing in Muldersdrift and contained inputs by the CPF, Youth Desk, and the councillors. In addition, there were addresses by the District Commissioner and the Johannesburg West Cluster deputy commander, Brigadier Mashadi Selepe.
“Issues and challenges faced by the community of Muldersdrift were raised by community members and all matters were taken into account. Major General Kekana emphasised that the Muldersdrift community should report criminal activities taking place in the Muldersdrift area and refrain from purchasing stolen property,” said Ntuli as she summarised the content of the meeting.
She added that Kekana further encouraged the community to work together by participating in the CPF in order to form positive relationships with each other, with the assistance of the Muldersdrift Police Station.
The meeting concluded in good spirit as the police, the stakeholders and the community made a public commitment to work together for the safety of their communities.
