WATCH: High tea enjoyed in vintage style
The event was themed 'Feathers and finery', and the women put on their best fancy outfits on the day to complement the theme and impress the judges, who had a difficult task of selecting the top three.
Residents of Ruimsig Retirement Village reminisced about the joyous party days of the past when they held an eventful high tea on Saturday, 25 May.
The event was themed ‘Feathers and finery’, and the women put on their best fancy outfits on the day to complement the theme and impress the judges, who had a difficult task of selecting the top three.

Member of the managing association and chairperson of the social club, Renell Liebenberg, explained the purpose of the event. “This was our third high tea for the ladies of Ruimsig Retirement Village. We chose the theme, ‘Feathers and finery’, which was inspired by the Great Gatsby Charleston era, and embraces the feathers over the shoulders, hair and the long strings of pearls, among other accessories. The idea was for the ladies to dress up without having to spend money on any item,” she explained.
While the judges, Frank and Anne Kriesoldt, were scoring the women on their beautiful costumes, they were treated to some fine champagne and spectacular entertainment – singing and dancing to The Beatles’ rendition of Ain’t She Sweet? and Jack Hylton’s Happy Days Are Here Again.

Closer to the end of the function, the judges announced the winners: Denice Keyter scooped third place, Annette Capper came in second, and Marusa Jacobs earned first position.
