While a noticed has been glued to a Post Box at the 14th Avenue Shopping Centre informing Post Office clients about the resumption of operations from 17 April 2019, a number of clients are still not sure about the effectiveness of the message.
The Weltevreden Park Post Office was thrust into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons when its clients were devastated by the poor service they were getting.
Many complainants stated that their letters were not being delivered to their post boxes on time or were not delivered at all.

In 2018, the Northsider reported on Johann Terblanche’s case. He had on numerous occasions tried to find a solution to the problem, as the lack of post could have negatively affected his business.
The Northsider was aware that the South African Post Office (Sapo) had had rocky year which was marred by a workers’ strike which negatively affected their ability to carry out their intended deliveries of post to residents.
The Northsider also learnt about a breakdown in business between the 14th Avenue Shopping Centre’s management and Sapo (the tenants). Sapo was believed to have fallen behind on its rent, leaving the centre management with no choice but to terminate the operation.
Although this allegation could not be verified by centre management, Michelle Greyling, of Growthpoint Property, responded as follows: “Unfortunately, I can’t give out confidential tenant information. I do however confirm that the Post Boxes are open and operational and residents are welcome to come and collect their post”.
However, Sue Garrett, a Sapo client and the latest complainant, told the Northsider that she still has not received any post. “My post box is still empty and I don’t know where to go now,” she confirmed.
Sapo has been approached for comment, but had not reverted at the time this article was published.
This is a developing story – readers will be kept updated as and when more details become available.
