Allen Glen rugby sides kitted out by sponsors for upcoming season

The kit was accepted on behalf of the school by the principal, head of sport, representative players, and coaches.

Allen Glen High School’s rugby sides received brand new kit for the upcoming season at the official handover at Del Forno Little Falls on Tuesday, 23 April.

The last few years have proved phenomenal for Allen Glen on the rugby scene, with the school’s five sides raking in more than 20 trophies across the 15-man and Sevens formats of the sport. However, throughout each of the successful trophy campaigns, the school hasn’t had the same kit across the board from U/14 to the Second Team, while the First Team has consistently had its own kit, separating it from the rest.

The school’s newest head sponsor, BCI Security, set out to change that when they signed on to the school this year however, as they aimed to help give Allen Glen’s teams a more ‘professional’ look that would see the U/14, U/15, U/16, and Second teams wearing the same kit, while the First XV would also receive new kit. The school then set out to obtain a few more sponsors for their kit, as it is never cheap to kit out that many teams.

They received tremendous assistance from the community, and after months of designing, planning, manufacturing, adjustments, and negotiations, their efforts finally culminated into two stunning new jerseys for the school’s rugby teams. The U/14, U/15, U/16 and Second teams will now be wearing a predominantly navy blue shirt broken by white stripes, with gold lining on the sides and gold stripes on the sleeves.

Making a clear distinction from the other kit, the First Team’s jersey is an even spread of navy blue, white and gold, with the colours looking a bit like claw marks on the front and back. The teams also received new pants with the jerseys, with the firsts receiving white and gold pants while the rest of the sides will be playing in black shorts.

The teams will be wearing their new kit for the first time when they take part in the finals of the Twizza Super 8 tournament on 27 April. “This will be the first time that the teams will be wearing a kit that looks the same from U/14 right through to the seconds,” said a thrilled Hennie van Vuuren, Allen Glen’s head of sport, during the handover.
