Five interesting Easter processions from around the world
Easter processions around the world can at time get pretty interesting and intimidating.
Annually when Easter rolls around, millions of processions are held right around the world, often reenacting a happening from the Bible. We highlight five that are especially interesting, and slightly intimidating.
1. Philippines
In the Philippines, people take part in the reenactment of the Passion of Christ, held on Good Friday as part of celebration of the Holy Week in the Philippines.
2. Madrid, Spain
During the Easter Holy Week, robed priests lead the Procession of Jesus of Nazareth the Poor through the streets of Madrid, Spain, while thousands of residents look on.
3. Krakow, Poland
The Feast of Corpus Christi (Body of Christ) procession in Krakow begins with a Mass, which is celebrated by the Cardinal of Krakow outdoors in front of the Wawel, before thousands of people take to the streets to take part in the procession.
4. Antigua, Guatemala
In Antigua, celebrations during the Easter Holy Week include a procession through the streets where penitents carry a float with the image of Jesus Christ.
5. Oaxaca, Mexico
If carrying a float with a statue of Jesus Christ on top through the town doesn’t intimidate you, then maybe a silent procession with thousands of participants through the streets of Oaxaca, Mexico will.
