A gardener who was arrested for murdering a domestic worker in Featherbrooke Estate last year was slapped with a hefty sentence on Tuesday, 16 April.
The 31-year-old Lucky Mososomele was sentenced to 37 years in prison after pleading guilty to house robbery and murder in the Johannesburg South High Court, according to Muldersdrift Police spokesperson, Constable Slindile Ntuli.
According to Ntuli, the body of the victim, aged 52, was discovered by her employer in the bathroom with multiple blunt force injuries to her upper body on 5 September 2018.
“The accused was spotted on the footage by former Sergeant Manana as he had previously arrested him. The Detective Branch’s commander, Captain Baloyi, and former detective Sergeant Manana proceeded to the accused’s residence, where he admitted to the house robbery and murder. and arrested him,” she said. She added that during the court proceedings, the children of the deceased were present, and hoping that justice would be served.
Muldersdrift Police’s station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mankontsho Setlhare, applauded his officers for their detective skills and tireless work on a murder case which saw the accused being sentenced to more than 30 years’ imprisonment.
“Their hard work has provided justice to the family of the deceased and enhanced the image of the police service,” he said.
