Bakkie driver taken in for questioning

“On the back of the bakkie, they found a huge gate with fencing and the driver could not say where they got it from.”

One of two people transporting suspected stolen property on a bakkie was taken in for questioning after being stopped in Muldersdrift in the early hours of 26 March.

According to a Facebook post by Drift Reaction, its operational manager, Theuns de Lange, assisted in the arrest while pursuing another matter.

“During the early hours of the morning, operational manager Theuns de Lange was on his way to a site where two suspects tried to steal the wheels of a trailer.

“As he turned onto Drift Boulevard, he noticed a red car that turned in behind a white Nissan 1400 bakkie. It was flashing its lights at the bakkie in an attempt to stop it. The bakkie was driving without any lights on although it was still dark.”

“Being aware that a similar bakkie was used to transport stolen scaffolding some time ago, Theuns decided to overtake the red car and bakkie and to box it in from the front,” the post read.

After managing to stop the bakkie, De Lange questioned the occupants of the red car who described themselves as community patrollers from Cosmo City. They were in pursuit of the bakkie, which they suspected was transporting stolen goods.

“On the back of the bakkie they found a huge gate with fencing and the driver could not say where they got it from.”

“While still speaking to the driver, the passenger made a run for it into the veld. The patrollers ran after him but he managed to flee.”

In the end, the driver of the bakkie and the goods were taken to Muldersdrift Police Station.
