Three days without electricity

Featherbrooke Estates has been without electricity since Wednesday night, and residents are looking for answers.

The News has received many messages from concerned residents of Featherbrooke Estate and surrounds about their electricity being off since Wednesday night.

Jeannine Froneman said, “Eskom service centres continually tell us different versions of what the issue is; cable theft, protests in Zandspruit or some excuse”. She added that she was also later told that there is a ‘problem with the Lanseria line.”

Another resident, Donovan Poole said, “I’ve just lost R2 000 worth of meat as my freezer defrosted. It’s getting desperate now.”

Many people are affected by the outage, but there seems to be no answer as to what’s going on. Calls to Eskom’s help lines are either not being answered or the lines are busy, but the News has reached out to Eskom through other means and is currently awaiting a reply.

Many disgruntled residents have requested answers from the Mogale City Local Municipality, which responded as follows:

“Dear Resident, Mogale City Local Municipality (Electricity Division) has been informed that Krugersdorp News has been inundated with queries relating to the non-supply of electricity to Featherbrooke Estate. As much as it is common knowledge, residents should nonetheless note that electricity supply to the Estate is provided directly from Eskom and not Mogale City Local Municipality.

“All queries related to the non-availability of electricity should therefore be directed to Eskom.”

In the event that Eskom replies to our inquiries, an update on this story will follow.
