The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has committed to providing a well-maintained and safe road infrastructure for all road users.
According to the JRA Managing Director, Goodwill Mbatha, some roads are pocked with potholes that need urgent attention. The formation of potholes on the City’s roads has doubled due to aging infrastructure as well as the recent rain. In an effort to ensure that they are providing quality roads that are accessible, safe and livable for the community, the JRA is currently testing the Jetpatcher Road Repair Machine.
The Jetpatcher system is not there to replace the current workforce, but to assist JRA employees to accelerate the patching of potholes with its new technology and, in the process, help to upskill those who are using the machine.
The JRA ran the Jetpatcher system test from 4 to 19 February and can attest to the following:
• The Jetpatcher system repaired 2 700 potholes, including patches of about a square metre, and potholes of less than 0,5 square metres, within 14 days.
• On average, 200 potholes were repaired per day. This far exceeds the number of potholes repaired by four ordinary patching teams (an average of 40 potholes).
• The testing took place in one Region (i.e. Region C) with Regions E and A to follow to complete the testing.
• If the organisation invests in the Jetpatcher system, pothole problems could become a thing of the past, and more resources will become available to see to other road-related defects.
• Most of the repairs were completed in under 15 minutes.”The Jetpatcher Road Repair Machine is not only known for its functionality, but also its proven track record, having been trusted and used for more than 25 years in more than 15 countries globally,” said Mbatha.
