A week after hosting its own tournament, the JNW Chess Club hosted the first Junior High School Tournament, once again at Trinityhouse Little Falls on 2 March.
The tournament saw Trinityhouse welcome 16 visiting schools to its school hall for the inaugural JNW Chess League Junior High School Tournament. With 17 schools in total taking part, 34 teams took to the chessboards across four different sections, to pit each player up against an opponent of equal strength.

The A Section saw Helpmekaar Kollege, Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge (RR), Hoërskool Linden, De La Salle College, Northcliff High School, and the Dominican Convent School do battle. The B and C Sections included 10 teams each, with Maragon Ruimsig and Trinityhouse LF both playing in the B Section, while the D Section included eight teams.
Helpmekaar undoubtedly dominated the day, as they managed to win every section in which they had a team (A, B, D Sections), with Linden’s A Section team the only team able to beat a Helpmekaar team on the day.
Linden and Trinityhouse RR were second and third in the A Section respectively, while Greenside and Glenvista took second and third in the B Section respectively.
In the C Section, Roosevelt took home the crown, with Vorentoe and Linden coming in second and third place respectively.
Helpmekaar won the D Section, with Roosevelt and Greenside in the second and third places.
Maragon Ruimsig managed to finish sixth in the B Section while Trinityhouse LF tied with Randpark for fourth place in the B Section.
