9th Avenue on the brink of collapse

Dave also complained about the state of the corner of Bergkaree Avenue coming from JG Strydom Road, where a sinkhole has started to develop.

The integrity of 9th Avenue, the road joining Weltevreden Park and Fairland, has raised concerns after it appeared to be on the brink of collapsing.

A worried Panorama Residents Association chairperson, Dave Baxter, shared a photo of part of 9th Avenue in a deteriorating condition and issued the warning. “The road is going to collapse,” he cautioned.

He said 9th Avenue during the day is usually a Stop/ Go, with motorists only using the ‘safe’ side; however, after hours when the pointsmen have knocked off, it becomes an unmonitored road carrying two-way traffic, which he believes poses a major danger to motorists.

Dave also complained about the state of the corner of Bergkaree Avenue coming from JG Strydom Road, where a sinkhole has started to develop. He said the road is sinking gradually as it is used daily.

The blame for these problems has been laid at door of the F46 Randwater pipeline project, which is being executed by Maziya General Services.

The contractor was approached for comment on matters related to the construction sites, but has as yet not replied.
