Weltevreden Park Primary School held a special induction day for its Grade 1 learners on Tuesday, 8 January, to welcome them to ‘big school’.
Welties Primary has one of the larger groups of Grade 1s in Roodepoort, and this year welcomed a group of 200 little ones to the school. The special induction day kicked off with registering the learners at the office before the assembly in the hall during which they were welcomed.

During assembly the parents, new and old, were informed of what they could expect from the school for their little Grade 1s, but not before the Grade 1s were dealt into their classes. Most of the Grade 1s were able to hold back their tears and stay strong, but naturally one or two didn’t want to let go of mommy and daddy.
The Grade 1s were introduced to their new teachers, after which they had a special party on the pavilion. While the little ones were making new friends, the parents were taken on a short tour of the areas where their children will be spending their upcoming school year.
