Post boxes remain barren after several months of no post

It's been about nine months since post was delivered to the boxes at 14th Avenue.

Residents who make use of the 14th Avenue District Shopping Centre’s post boxes have not received mail for up to nine months. The reason for the delay? An alleged ‘dispute’ between the South African Post Office (Sapo) and the centre’s landlord.

Sapo has had a rocky 2018, with various worker strikes negatively affecting its ability to deliver post to residents.

Last November a Krugersdorp Post Office official informed the Northsider about the dispute between Sapo and the centre’s landlord. It seems that the issue has not been resolved yet, at least according to Johann Terblanche, a resident who rents a post box at the 14th Avenue Centre. He did however admit that Sapo has found a way of getting his post to him.

“They have at least started assisting me by using the Krugersdorp Post Office as a means of delivering my post,” he said.

“But, this hasn’t brought any change to the situation at 14th Avenue as people who haven’t been able to make other arrangements are still waiting for their post.”

Johann was fortunate enough to receive a large bundle of post through the Krugersdorp Post Office in November, which included items dating back as far as April 2018. This indicates that the issue at 14th Avenue has been dragging on since April last year.
