Maragon Ruimsig received several awards at the Johannesburg West Sport and Culture Awards event hosted by the Gauteng Department of Education on 29 November.
Maragon’s chess guru, Gerda Kies, who is also the chairperson of District 12 Chess, received the Sport Code of the Year award.

Maragon also had the honour of having their own David Maree as the programme director at the event.
The teachers weren’t the only ones to do well, however, as Grade 8 learner Kerri-Ann Naicker was the runner-up in the Secondary School Sportswoman category for her outstanding achievements in chess.
