Medic injured in ambulance attack

“The crew member was injured during the attack and that will lead to her being traumatised," Denver lamented.

 

A Honeydew-based private ambulance service’s paramedic sustained injuries and was left traumatised when the ambulance she was travelling in was pelted with rocks near Westbury on 3 December, during unrest in the area.

According to Denver Ramnarain, the owner of the QRS ambulance service, his staff were treating and transporting a very seriously ill patient when the ambulance was senselessly attacked by rock-throwing people on Fuel Road near the Rahima Moosa Hospital.

“The driver reported that the perpetrators were hiding behind the Reya Vaya bus station and as the ambulance drove past, they were pelted with rocks.”

He added that the matter was reported to the police, but also learnt that two more ambulances were also damaged in the area.

Reports this morning indicated that the Westbury area remains a no-go area due to the unrest.
