ProTouch puts the brakes on phenomenal 2018
ProTouch also showcased the team's brand new car – which will be used during the 2019 season – for the first time.
ProTouch Cycling ended off what has been a stellar 2018 season with a phenomenal 947 Cycle Challenge performance that saw them grab third place in the team rankings.
The year that’s passed has seen ProTouch take part in Africa’s most prestigious cycle race, the Tour du Rwanda, as well as 20 one-day classic races and six multi-stage tours in the Support SA Talent Road Cycling Series. Several ProTouch riders have found themselves at the forefront of the road cycling series, with a few taking top spot and even more within the top five on the series rankings.
The lengthy season finally came to an end on Sunday 18 November, with the final race and final one-day classic of the season, the 947 Cycle Challenge. The weatherman did not hold back on the day, with temperatures on the tarmac reaching up to 37°C which undoubtedly would’ve made the race even more of a challenge than it usually is for riders.
The tough conditions didn’t mean the ProTouch cyclists held back – oh no – they pushed and ground their way through the race, earning impressive finishes in the process. Myles van Musschenbroek was able to grab a hot spot win on the course, while Jaydé Julius managed to earn himself a commendable two third places in the hot spots.
His impressive performance didn’t end there however, as Jaydé managed to finish as the King of the Mountains. Junior ProTouch cyclist, Tiano da Silva, also impressed on the day, earning himself a third place in the junior division. In the elite men’s division, Jaydé managed to finish in a respectable sixth place while Reynard Butler finished eighth overall.
The spectacular performances by the riders saw ProTouch bag third place in the team rankings, behind Officeguru and BCX.
