Chatroom draws year to a close with final meeting of the year

More than 20 people attended what was the final Chatroom of the year at NG Kerk Constantakruin.

The year came to a fitting end for the cancer Chatroom, with a guest speaker and singer at the NG Kerk Constantiakruin on Saturday, 10 November.

What has been a mammoth year for the Chatroom has seen their numbers grow from 15 or so on a good day, to more than 20/ 25 people regularly in attendance. The Chatroom aims to give its participants a means of breaking away from the struggles they may face on a daily basis by giving them the chance to talk about anything; anything other than their cancer.

The final meeting of the year wasn’t a dull affair, however, as the organisers roped in a speaker and singer to help motivate and cheer up the meeting’s participants. Leandie Lombaard Bräsler has been singing since she can remember, and also hosts a support group of her own for women.

This time around however, she found herself presented with the chance to speak to a number of cancer survivors, patients, or caretakers. Leandie broke her speech up into sections, and in the gaps, performed some stunning renditions of various well-known South African songs, which even got some of the participants up and dancing, while forgetting, however briefly, about any problems they may face.
