CPF concerned about festive crime patterns
Carolyn shared the overview crime stats for the month of September as an indicator of the crime levels in the area.
As the festive season rapidly draws near, the Honeydew Community Policing Forum Sector 3 chairperson, Carolyn Lanzillotti, has recommended that each resident should get to know their neighbours and look out for them.
Her encouragement comes as the months leading up to the festive period (October and November) are generally very chaotic with regard to criminal activities. Carolyn shared the overview crime statistics for the month of September as an indicator of the crime levels in the area.

She said the number of hijackings had decreased during the past three months. However, theft of motor vehicle was showing an increase and in most cases, incidents took place at local events. “Many events were held in September at various locations, among them the Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden, Ruimsig Stadium and the parkruns,” she said.
She reminded motorists that, “If you are having an event or attending one, please ensure your vehicles are properly locked and secure. Toyota Hilux bakkies and VWs are the key vehicles being targeted”.
She also raised a concern about residential robberies which were picking up during the day, with many domestic workers being assaulted. “The modus operandi during the day is for vehicle drivers to hoot at property gates and say they have an appointment. If the domestic worker then lets them in, they proceed to rob the premises,” Carolyn explained.
She added, “Please warn your domestic workers to not go out and open for suspicious men. They should rather press the panic button on the alarm system or phone their employers”.
In an effort to combat crime, Carolyn encouraged the community to attend the November CPF meeting in large numbers.
“We are trying to get more attendees for our November CPF meeting at the Strubens Valley United Church at 6:30pm on 14 November.
Please could the community make an effort to attend in order to be better prepared to stay safe this festive season,” she urged.
