WARNING: SABC has not appointed TV licence inspectors

This follows an alert last week about armed robbers operating in the area pretending to be SABC TV licence inspectors.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has warned residents of Johannesburg, particularly in Weltevreden Park, of imposters posing as TV licence officials.

This follows an alert last week about armed robbers operating in the area pretending to be SABC TV licence inspectors. They are apparently neatly dressed in suits, but are considered dangerous. They drive a silver VW Caddy.

The SABC spokesperson, Neo Momodu, distanced the SABC from this criminal activity. She said, “The SABC has noted with concern a WhatsApp message doing the rounds warning members of the public, particularly in the Weltevreden Park area west of Johannesburg, of would-be robbers posing as SABC TV Licence agents”.

“The SABC wishes to inform the public that it has not appointed inspectors or officials for purposes of physical inspections of household television sets,” she confirmed, urging that “any person that claims to be an SABC official or agent in order to gain access to a house or premises must be reported to the police as they do not represent the SABC”.
