Running and walking for fun to support the Honeydew CPF

Close to 150 runners braved the chilly weather to support the Honeydew CPF's Fun Run.

The sixth edition of the Honeydew CPF’s annual 5km Fun Run, which took place at Weltevreden Park Primary School unfortunately saw low numbers compared to previous years, most likely due to the overcast weather that crept in during the early hours of the morning. However, this didn’t stop ±150 residents from all over Sector 2 from pitching up with the utmost enthusiasm and drive, despite the cold air which was undoubtedly a little harsh on the runners’ lungs, let alone their muscles.

Local celebrity runner, Lungelo Ndlovu, who won the 2017 edition of the race, was among the group of runners looking to leave their mark. He made sure to position himself right at the front of the throng of runners as the race began, and set out to build an early lead.

Lungelo, who ran as part of the ‘I Don’t Know’ team, reached the finish line at a blistering pace, having completed his 5km in little more than 16 minutes, easily defending his title from the previous year.

With Lungelo easily the winner of the men’s division, Kristin McLean came in as the first female runner, with the Suffer Squad crowned as the winning team as Beagle Watch Security’s team came in second place.

Once the race was over, runners were able to replenish the calories they’d burnt during the race by enjoying boerewors rolls courtesy of Lupo Bakery, Spar Palm Court, and Beagle Watch Security.
