St Michael’s hosts ‘marathon’ race for residents with Paws for People
The residents of St Michael's Retirement Village spent the morning of Saturday, 29 September taking part in the Village's annual marathon.
Paws for People paid the residents of St Michael’s Retirement Village a visit and lent a helping hand during the Village’s annual marathon.
The marathon morning got under way with a special race for the Village’s resident super dog, three-legged Hopper, who was taken around his shortened ‘race track’ by Maureen Keanely. Next up was a race for the residents in electric wheelchairs, which saw a couple of residents zoom off down the ‘sprint track’.

Unfortunately one resident’s electric wheelchair didn’t start, but Christine Mortlock, with a cheeky smile on her face, made sure to leave the starting line in her wake. She was followed closely by Pamela Curtis, who seemed to just enjoy the time out and about. Christine crossed the finish line first, to be crowned the winner of the electric wheelchair race.
Next up was the ordinary wheelchair race, where residents were pushed around the Village either by family, or volunteers from Paws for People with dogs on leashes. The Paws for People volunteers are good friends of St Michael’s, as they often come to pay the residents a visit with a couple of dogs.

The final race of the day was for residents who walked their smaller dogs around the Village, with everything coming to an end just after 9.30am.
