Drumming into the new season
The centre’s media coordinator, Nicole Ras, explained the purpose of the event.
The thrumming rhythm of African drums, a huge bonfire and euphoric energy best describe the eventful Spring equinox celebration held at the Earth Centre on 22 September.
Drum enthusiasts and Earth Centre supporters circled a bonfire as the sun set and eventually found themselves moving to the beat of the African drums as they played the drums under the guidance of the Harmonics, a group of drum instructors headed by Paul Boyter.

The centre’s media coordinator, Nicole Ras, explained the purpose of the event. “The event is partially a fundraiser for us (we do make a little bit of money out of it). We do this event on the equinoxes. Today is spring equinox and that is basically when seasons are officially changing,” she said, as she shared the concept at the event.
She added that the event was also aimed at increasing awareness of the centre.
During the event, Monash South Africa students assisted with creating brand awareness by interacting with the visitors and introducing them to the centre’s instructors.

The experience lasted for about 90 minutes as the attendees, old and young, enjoyed creating sounds using the drums.
Nicole was impressed with the number of visitors and concluded the night by thanking the families who came out to enjoy the evening and the Harmonics for bringing the entertainment that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
