Name the Chick competition has now concluded

Our Name the Chick competition has finally come to an end after 29 days of naming the now-juvenile eagle.

After exactly 29 days of receiving entries, the Name the Chick competition has finally come to an end.

The competition was launched in association with the Black Eagle Project Roodekrans (BEPR) on 17 August with the aim of finding a name for the newest addition to our beloved Verreaux’s eagle family. Ever since, you [the public] have poured your entries in by the hundreds, far surpassing the total number of entries we received last year.

The overwhelming support we received this year has seen us receive an astounding 251 entries either online or on paper. This is only seven entries short of doubling the amount we received last year – 129. We have received some absolutely amazing and inspiring names, and naturally some more silly ones to go with.

We are beyond grateful for the reaction from the community to the competition, but now it comes time to determine who the winner of our competition will be. We will be tallying all the entries and handing them over to the team at the BEPR, who will determine the winner of the competition over the next week or so.

The winner of the R500 Spar voucher, a R200 voucher for the Eagle’s Fare Restaurant in the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, as well as a two-night midweek stay for two people at the Fairway, one of the Guvon Hotel and Spa establishments, and the name of the now-juvenile eagle will hopefully be announced next week. The winner will be contacted sometime during the week, but we aren’t sure exactly when as the BEPR team will need to vote on their winner first.
