Combating child abuse one spin at a time
More than 50 individuals came together across four separate spinning sessions to help raise money for Matla A Bana.
Experienced cyclist AJ Niemand, who has ridden some of South Africa’s toughest races (the Kremetart and the Cape Town Cycle Tour [formerly known as the Cape Argus Cycle Tour]), led each of the four sessions that made up the Keller Williams (KW) Spring Day Charity Spinathon held recently at Planet Fitness in Ruimsig. AJ took the participants on a journey their legs won’t want to remember, but will never forget, as he pushed everyone to the limit.

Anybody and everybody was welcome to take part in the charity spinathon, at a minimal cost of R80 per session, all of which went to the Matla A Bana charity. The first session started at 7am, with a new session starting every hour thereafter, with the spinathon coming to an end at 11am.

Matla A Bana is always in need of assistance, and KW provided some much-needed help with the more than R4 000 that they raised, solely from the sessions. There were also items which Matla A Bana need on a daily basis, that entrants were able to bring to Planet Fitness and drop off with the KW team.KW’s Chief Executive Officers, Marco Coetzee and William Blake, were also not afraid to get down and sweaty, and happily took part in the spinathon. During his time on the bike, however, Marco could be heard jokingly saying he’d make sure he “brings a cushion next time” – testimony to the tough pace AJ set.
