Parkrun finally set to make the move to Ruimsig

The Ruimsig Parkrun will launch for the first time on 15 September, from Ruimsig Stadium.

Parkrun South Africa will finally be making the move to Ruimsig this September, as they will be launching the Ruimsig Parkrun from Ruimsig Stadium on the 15th.

The Ruimsig Parkrun will be the typical 5km race, and grants runners of all shapes and sizes an opportunity to take part as there is no pressure on you to finish in a specific time. The run will not start in the stadium however, but rather just outside, and will wind it way around the stadium for 5km.

The race will also be run entirely on trail paths, and will have marshals at key points in the race, depending on availability. The race description on Parkrun’s website describes the Ruimsig course as “A beautiful trail-type course going through the stadium, rocky surfaces with nice even hills and running around Ruimsig dam”.

Three core rules apply to runners of the Parkrun:

• Please be considerate to the park and other park users at all times.

• Children under the age of eleven must be accompanied (within arm’s reach) throughout the run by a parent, guardian or appropriate adult of the parent’s choice.

• Please arrive by foot, by pedal-power or by public transport if you can – your efforts help to reduce our impact on the park and the planet.

There is no entrance fee to the Parkrun, but you are required to register on Parkrun’s website so that you can have your times tracked. If you are not yet a registered parkrunner, you can register online at https://www.parkrun.co.za/register/form/

You will be given a barcode as a runner, and you MUST bring the barcode printed out to the race on race day so that you can be timed. If you do not have your barcode, you will not be timed for your race.

The very first Ruimsig Parkrun will take place on Saturday, 15 September, starting at 8am.
