The Earth Centre needs your vote

The Earth Centre is listed in the programme and is now appealing for votes in a bid to get their hands on the prize money which will help them in the enhancement of their organisational needs.

A share of R1 million is up for grabs for any charity organisation listed in the MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet fundraising programme.

This is one of South Africa’s biggest community programmes that raises funds for schools, charities and the environment through a card system that allows supporters to raise funds for their beneficiary (school or charity) every time they shop at our partner stores.

The Earth Centre is listed in the programme and is now appealing for votes in a bid to get their hands on the prize money which will help them in the enhancement of their organisational needs.

Nicole Ras, the media coordinator expressed reasons for community members to vote for them. “At the Earth Centre, we interact with the whole person – we strengthen the body, challenge the mind, and lift the spirit through our equine-assisted programmes. The majority of the people that we assist come from disadvantaged backgrounds and have a variety of physical, mental and emotional disabilities,” she explained.

She continued, “We are devoted to keeping people focused on what they CAN do, rather than on what they cannot do. Besides teaching a new skill, the pony offers soothing physical warmth, and effectively becomes the legs of a child who is unable to walk. Similarly, the three-way movement closely mimics the hip motion of the human gait, thus soothing and stimulating as well as strengthening undeveloped muscles.”

According to Nicole, the rides help with following: they stretch tight or spastic muscles, improve gross and fine motor skills, improve balance and co-ordination, promote independence and encourage decision-making, develop self-discipline, improve self-image and encourage communication and social skills.

She also explained how to vote for them. “People can vote for us by clicking on the following link: https://www.myschool.co.za/vote4charity. The website will show a list of charities and can find us by scrolling down to ‘The’, tick the box and click ‘next’. They will be asked for their MySchool Card Number. If they do not have a MySchool Card yet, they can apply for one right there and then in order to vote,” she explained.

Voting is open until 18 June 2018.
