Children fought for during charity fight

The fitness club staged six fights under the theme 'Mayhem4Dempsey' at The Barnyard at Silverstar on 10 May.

A local mixed martial art and fitness club, Team Mayhem, believes children should spend their time playing, laughing and having fun instead of fighting illnesses.

This why the Ruimsig Athletics Stadium-based club organised a White Collar Boxing event, where fighters fought for a good cause.

The event was held in partnership with the Dempsey Foundation which supports children with cerebral palsy. The Foundation was founded by the relatives of Dempsey, a little boy suffering from cerebral palsy, to try and raise funds for him and other children suffering from a similar condition.

Two of the most exhilarating bouts (main fights) were between Patrick Luindlula, the former EFC fighter and owner of Extreme Warriors Championship and Mike Vermeulen, the EFC Heavyweight Fighter, and between Werner Koekies Koekemoer and Rohann Treptow.

The evening saw sports stars such as Ettiene Reinecke, the SA Rugby Union Player, and former Springbok rugby players Danie Gerber and Adri Geldenhuys, plus the two boxing legends, Dingaan Thobela and Brian Mitchell, gracing the spectacular event.

The event also included entertainment such as musical items and auctions in between fights.
