Protest action reported in Zandspruit

The land invasion issue happened to be the cause of the protest action, according to law enforcement.

 

Reports have emerged of protest action taking place in Zandspruit before lunchtime on 4 May.

According to the report, the demonstrators blockaded Beyers Naudé Drive with burning tyres. It is believed that the demonstration was triggered by the on-going issue of land invasion in that area.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department’s Superintendent Wandile Mrubata confirmed that the protest was sparked by the removal of demarcation markers. He also confirmed that the roads are now open and authority is monitoring the situation.
