Man turned gun on himself at gun store, police said
It is unclear what led to the fatal incident; however, ER24 spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen indicated the man sustained a gunshot to his head and died while being transported to hospital.
A 52-year-old man lost his life under mysterious circumstances at a local arms, ammunition and shooting range dealer at the Hillfox Shopping Centre this past weekend.
According to initial reports after the tragic incident at Flora Guns on 7 April, rumours that this was an attempted suicide began to circulate as the man was rushed to a hospital for the injuries he had sustained.
The Northsider learnt this week from the police that the incident was in fact a suicide when the spokesperson for Honeydew Police Station Captain Balan Muthan, confirmed the incident. “It wasn’t an attempted suicide, this was a genuine suicide,” said Muthan.
It is unclear what led to the fatal incident; however, ER24 spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen indicated that the man had sustained a gunshot to his head and died while being transported to hospital.

“ER24 can confirm that we arrived on the scene at approximately 1pm on Saturday 7 April. We transported a critically injured man, who had sustained a gunshot wound to his head, to the Life Flora Clinic, where he was declared dead on arrival,” Van Huyssteen stated.
She added that the exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not yet known to the paramedics, but police were on the scene for further investigations.
Muthan said an inquest docket had been opened but was not able to divulge any further information about the victim or the crime scene as the family had not yet been fully informed about the matter.
Flora Guns was approached for comment; however, they declined, saying that the matter was under police investigation and they had been advised not to comment to the media.
This is not the first suicide incident at the gun store – the Northsider reported in July 2016 on a person who gunned himself down inside the indoor shooting range. The victim had been at the shooting range attending a training session when he apparently shot himself.
A major question remains to be answered – do some of Flora Guns’ clients visit the shooting range with a different purpose than learning how to use a firearm?
