Free health screening for pensioners
To take advantage of this free service, pensioners are urged to make an appointment.

In South Africa, 225 people die from heart disease every day, one in three adults have high blood pressure, and ten people suffer a stroke every hour.
The good news is that 80 per cent of heart disease and strokes can be prevented and MediRite pharmacies are now offering pensioners free access to crucial health checks.
Starting from 7 February, free wellness screenings are available to senior citizens aged 60 and older on the first Wednesday of every month at the 147 MediRite pharmacies located in Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets across South Africa. The check-ups include blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) tests.
To take advantage of this free service, pensioners are urged to make an appointment at their local MediRite pharmacy and need to produce their green identity books when doing so.
“Everyone should monitor their blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol and BMI levels, but it’s particularly important for pensioners to do so. The tests can detect cardiovascular disease, which is among the top three causes of death in sub-Saharan Africa. Early detection means you can seek treatment early, which could save your life,” said Prof Liesl Zühlke, President of the South African Heart Association.
