Spokesperson for the Muldersdrift Police Station, Warrant Officer Masedi Masedi, told Northsider that their Trio Task Team is still working on the investigation.

Cradlestone and Clearwater Malls were targeted last year by armed suspects who were out to rob the branches of a leading retail jeweller in both shopping centres.

The first robbery occurred on 16 July, when eight men allegedly attempted to ransack the Browns Jewellers shop at Clearwater Mall. However, a panic button was activated which set off the smoke detectors on the floor. The second incident happened on 30 July, when seven suspects allegedly fired several shots while they attempted to rob the Cradlestone Mall branch of Browns Jewellers.

A reward of up to R250 000 in cash was made available for the arrest and successful conviction of the five suspects whose identikits were publicised. This subsequently led to one arrest, which was confirmed by Brown’s Jewellers and the police.
