MSA financial expert receives CFO nomination

Liew is one of the very few finance professionals from a non-publicly listed private institution to be nominated since the award’s inception in 2014.

“I am immensely pleased that Monash South Africa has been recognised alongside other distinguished private and public sector institutions in the country. Going forward, I need to ensure that we sustain and improve the good work that has been invested in the finance function, and hope that this nomination will also help create greater awareness of the calibre of the talent profile we have here at MSA as a whole,” said Alvin Liew, the Chief Financial Officer of Monash South Africa, after receiving a nomination for the CFO Awards coming up in May.

Liew is one of the very few finance professionals from a non-publicly listed private institutions to be nominated since the award’s inception in 2014.

The annual CFO Awards recognise CFOs of listed companies, large corporations, state-owned entities and government institutions and awards them for outstanding performance and leadership. Liew is an active member of CFO South Africa and was nominated by two of his peers, partners in the big four audit firms in South Africa with whom Liew has worked during his time at MSA. For finance executives to be considered for this award, they need to demonstrate outstanding, tangible achievements in the finance function within an organisation and throughout their personal finance career.

Justifications for these achievements were to be outlined and validated in the nomination proposal sent by the nominators and nominees. President of Monash, Professor Alwyn Louw, said, “This nomination validates our capability and illustrates that the staff at Monash South Africa are on par with the best talent in South Africa.

I believe it is the first time a finance professional from an educational institution (public or private) has been nominated for the CFO Awards, making this an exceptional honour.”

Winners are chosen by a panel of judges experienced in the field of business and finance who are highly regarded by the CFO community.
