Take responsibility for your actions

Glenn from Roodepoort writes:

People in SA have a tendency to blame systems or others for shortcomings.

People in SA complain regularly about the lawlessness, yet they are a part of the problem. Every day on the highway travelling north I see scores of drivers knowingly driving in the emergency lane.

It is quite normal to see 50 cars using the emergency lane between Beyers Naudé and Malibongwe Drives. This is a distance of less than 5km.

The majority are cars, not taxis, although taxis also use the lane. Who do we blame for this South Africa? The absence of traffic officers on the highway? The heavy traffic? The government? Or ourselves?

South Africa, I suggest its time to grow up and take responsibility for your own actions and behaviour.

Quit blaming everything and everyone else for your own lawlessness. You can’t expect meaningful change unless you start with yourself.

Society asks very little from citizens. It asks that we follow the rules. That’s all. So let’s be a considerate, respectful and thoughtful society. Let’s do what is asked of us. Imagine the change in our society if we simply follow the rules and take responsibility for our actions.
