Radiokop resident earns champion’s trophy

Roodepoort has found yet another mathematics braniac in Jordan Moodley.

Jordan Moodley participated in the 17th installment of the Pama Global Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Championships that were held at the luxurious Hilton Hotel in Sandton on 28 December, 2017.

The competition featured participants from all over the world, with over 195 participants from 17 different countries taking part.

The championships followed a format that was set out in the shape of an exam in which competitors had to perform multiple maths functions, including division, multiplication, square root, cube root and much more.

Competitors had three minutes each on the three abacus papers to complete 20 to 30 sums and one minute each on the three mental arithmetic papers.

Championship awards were handed out to the top 20 per cent of competitors, which saw South Africa bagging 12 of the 53 awards.

Jordan currently attends Radford House School, in Fairland, and resides with his family in Radiokop.
