In a statement, Lesufi said parents and communities should note that it is difficult to recover lost curriculum time, and that children end up being the victims.

A number of schools were affected by the demonstrations, including schools in the Krugersdorp area where angry residents clashed with police during a #KrugersdorpWarAgainstDrugs which targeted Nigerian residents, who are believed to be involved in human trafficking and drug-dealing.

“Parents are called upon to take precautionary measures and prioritise the safety of their children. We will monitor the situation,” Lesufi urged the parents.

Lesufi also announced that he will be visiting a number of schools including Hoërskool Overvaal, to resolve the impasse about admissions.
