Muldersdrift police deployed to #KrugersdorpWarAgainstDrugs protest

Muldersdrift Police Station sent out police members to Krugersdorp in a bid to increase manpower.

 

The chaotic, ongoing #KrugersdorpWarAgainstDrugs protest in the Krugerdorp CBD, which has resulted in violence and destruction of properties, has seen the deployment of more police vans from neighbouring stations in the area.

Along with various police units dispatched from the surrounding areas to the area from as early as 6am, Warrant Officer Masedi Masedi, spokesperson for Muldersdrift Police Station, has confirmed to Northsider that members from their station were also sent out to intervene in the crisis.

“A vehicle was sent out to intervene. Our members are busy helping with what’s happening there,” Masedi confirmed.

Fierce residents of Krugersdorp took to the streets to burn down properties which they believe are being occupied by Nigerian nationals, whom they accuse of plying illegal trades such as drug peddling and prostitution.

This morning, 22 January, a police vehicle from Krugersdorp and a building at Munsieville Police Station were set alight while the protesters went on the rampage.

Masedi has warned residents to avoid affected roads in the Krugersdorp precinct.
