The property manager at the mall, Carol-Lee Payne, who confirmed the incident, alluded that it was not the first time that the Post Office had been targeted; however, “apart from the Post Office we have had no other such incident over the past year”.

According to Payne there were no injuries or damage to property. This was also confirmed by Honeydew Police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan who explained the robbers’ modus operandi.

He said, “Four suspects with firearms entered the Post Office. One suspect held up the security guard while another stood by the door and watched everybody.

The two other suspects jumped over the counter and demanded cash from the tills and from the office.”

Payne shared how they are planning to maintain effective security and assist in the police’s ongoing investigation. “Effective security always requires the combined commitment of the centre, its tenants and the police. The centre has extensive security measures, including visible patrols by security guards and the support of reaction teams with proven, impeccable response times.
